Accessiway at Digital FMCG
Accessiway was on the floor with a dedicated stand, where visitors could take on our accessible competition and receive one-to-one accessibility audits — a hands-on way for FMCG brands to get an immediate, concrete read on where their digital estate stands against current standards and EAA requirements.
Our Speech: "Browse, Abandon, Repeat"
Presented by Melanie Defries, PR Manager, and Matteo De Letteriis, Sales Team Leader
The session challenged a comfortable assumption many FMCG brands carry into the room: that having an accessibility statement, an overlay widget and a past audit means the job is done. Drawing on the WebAIM Million study — which found e-commerce averaging 71 accessibility errors per homepage — and an ArcTouch analysis showing 6 in 10 retail shopping apps rated Poor or Failing for accessibility, the talk mapped exactly where the customer journey breaks down in practice.
The talk closed with a five-step practical framework for upgrading accessibility strategy: auditing the full digital estate, testing with real users with disabilities, investing in team education, making accessibility a measurable KPI, and embedding it into the development workflow from the start.
